beach creatures series (in progress)
I created the Beach Creatures series to celebrate the vibrant community of Wreck Beach in Vancouver. There’s something magical about this place, tucked along the Pacific Northwest coast. It brings people together in a way that feels effortless. It’s more than a beach—it’s its own little world where everyone watches out for each other. You notice it right away, especially after making the steep climb down 400 steps.
The beach has all these little things that make it unforgettable. Boozie freezies on a hot day. The relaxed, party vibe in the air. Once, while soaking it all in, I looked up, and there was a nude band right next to me—electric guitar and everything. It was like stepping into a dream. That’s the kind of place Wreck Beach is: creative, carefree, and a little surreal.
For this series, I’ve been working with oil paints on textured backgrounds made from modeling paste and cut-up canvas. Each piece reflects the joy, nostalgia, and energy of beach life.
These paintings aren’t just about nature—they’re about connection. The joy of being by the ocean. The memories we make together. I want to capture that feeling and share it with you: the laughter, the warmth, and the unique spirit of Wreck Beach.
These pieces aren’t currently for sale as I work towards having enough for an exhibition. However, if you would be interested in a print, please let me know as it’s something I’m considering offering.
